Pine Bark to the Rescue!

Pine Bark

In an eight-week study in Great Britain, pine bark extract was used to treat 21 patients with severe chronic venous insufficiency (including ankle swelling and a history of venous ulcerations). On average, the patients had had symptoms for almost six years. After taking pine bark extract everyone showed significant improvement in edema, as well as circulation problems, as opposed to the control group which showed no change. The researchers concluded that pine bark extract can play a significant role in the management of venous insufficiency and may also be useful in preventing ulcerations.

Premium MCT’s Support Brain and Body

Coconut and its Oils

MCT Oil (medium chain triglycerides) are digested and utilized differently than other fatty acids. Instead of being packaged into lipoproteins that circulate in the bloodstream, they are absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the portal vein, and are then transported to the liver. Because they don’t need bile or pancreatic enzymes to break down, they are easier to digest. And because they are easier to digest, they provide your body with quick energy, like carbohydrates.

Another exciting fact about MCT oil is it provides cellular energy very quickly – without relying on glucose. This is particularly significant when the supply of glucose is compromised due to insulin resistance, a common health concern.

And there is good cause for concern. Insulin resistance is a growing health concern and predisposes many serious health problems. Between 1994 and 2002, a 23% growth rate brought the number to 6.8% of the total U.S. population.

But not all MCT oils are the same

MCT Medium Chain Triglyceride (MCT) Product Choices

Most MCT oils consist primarily of C-8, C-10, and C-12 carbon lengths. While these are good general purpose oils that will not store as fat, the ketone potential is limited. As mentioned earlier, MCT oil is rapidly converted to energy producing ketones or excreted. Most people can’t tolerate the multiple tablespoons of traditional MCT oil required to stimulate meaningful amounts of ketones. Stomach upset and diarrhea are the likely result. Only C-8 MCT oil supports an abundance of ketones with a dosage free of gastric side effects. With the lower dosage comes a lower calorie content and more effective stimulation of the fat to ketone energy cycle.

A recent study concluded C8 MCT was about three times more ketogenic than C10 and about six times more ketogenic than C12.

Health Care Needs to be About Us!

For all of us!

Not about profits and market expansion

In today’s political environment, we the people are losing ground. Whether you’re on the right or left, up or down on where we are heading, or have chosen to withdraw from any part of the conversation, it’s hard not to notice. We’re losing focus on individuals, losing focus on us.

Nowhere is this more obvious than health care, or more specifically, the pharmaceutical markets. What we are told and prescribed is first dictated by financial projection, and then by investment, in support of capitalism. And while this is a great system supporting industrial advancement, it can leave some good ideas, and some of us good people behind.

Many natural methods we once used to support health have been replaced with synthetic patented drugs. The once valid argument of protecting and supporting investment in research to supply the masses with needed medicines is now overshadowed with the cost of patent protection and government oversight, as well as the need to meet market expectations.

As drug patents expire, so does the incentive to manufacture, promote, and distribute. The profits will be in what’s next, not what is – or was.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Did the drugs of yesteryear stop working?
    • Usually not.
  • Will the drugs of tomorrow out perform the drugs of today?
    • Maybe . . . most likely from an investor standpoint.
  • Has the idea of continuous improvement moved away from the product to focus only on the money?
    • Not completely, but it is the money that is the first consideration. And without a windfall in that consideration, the product simply won’t follow.

Here are parts of a conversation once overheard:

“We have developed a cure for XXXXXXXX which is a rare crippling disease”
“You said rare, how rare?”
“XXXXXXX people contract this annually”
“Not enough, what else do you have?”

Was this a greedy entrepreneur with no morals? No, just a knowledgeable business person that knows the cost of FDA approval and current patent laws do not allow for a compassionate approach.

We’ve all heard the expression “money makes the world go round.” How about a new phrase “big money brings our health care down?”

The goal of Us Smart Publications is to provide alternative health care information for us – for all of us.

Why is Vitamin D so important?

At least one-third of American adults, and 75% of adults with cardiovascular disease may be deficient in vitamin D.

We now know that every body cell has a receptor for vitamin D, which is why it is so crucial to overall health. Adequate vitamin D is necessary for reducing the risk for bone disease, is believed to play a role in the reduction of falls, as well as reducing pain, autoimmune diseases, cancer, heart disease, mortality and supporting cognitive function.

Enhanced Working Relationships

A journalist researching human pheromones tried them to see for himself what the results were like. “I immediately noticed that the people I work with were looking at me and smiling more than usual. I finally realized that it was me, that I was making more eye contact with them and sending a message of confidence I didn’t normally project.”

What is Vitamin K?

Originally identified as a fat-soluble nutrient required for normal blood coagulation, vitamin K is actually a family of similar compounds, which recent research reveals are also necessary for integrating calcium into bone and preventing its deposit within blood vessels. The latest research also indicates vitamin K possesses significant anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory actions.

In nature, vitamin K is found in the forms of vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) and several different types of vitamin K2 (menaquinones):

K1, which is involved in photosynthesis, is produced by plants and algae, its highest concentrations found in green leafy vegetables. Primary dietary sources of K1 are leafy greens, such as broccoli, kale, and Swiss chard, and plant oils, such as canola and soybean oil.

K2 is produced by bacteria and also via the conversion of K1 to K2 by beneficial bacteria in the intestines of animals, including humans. Natto (fermented soybeans) is the richest dietary source of vitamin K2. Dairy products (milk, butter, cottage cheese, cheese) and egg yolk also provide small amounts.

K2 is more potent and has the widest range of activity. Far more active than K1 in both bone formation and reduction of bone loss, K2 is a 15-fold more powerful antioxidant than K1, and is also the form which has been found to protect against arterial calcification and the oxidation (free radical damage) of LDL cholesterol.

Finally, K2 occurs in numerous forms that vary in their activity. K2 can have a side chain between 4 and 9 units long. This side chain has a great effect on bioavailability. Shorter chain length results in shorter half-life within the body, thus limiting our body’s ability to utilize the vitamin. Both vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 in the form of menaquinone-4 have very short half-lives in the body, while longer chain forms of vitamin K2, such as menaquinone-7, have dramatically longer half-lives and much higher bioactivity. Because recent research has shown that vitamin K2, in the form of menaquinone-7, is the most potent and longest acting form of vitamin K2, many researchers now consider it to be the most important dietary form of vitamin K for protecting the cardiovascular system and promoting bone health.

In a massive European clinical trial following 4,807 subjects aged at least 55 over a 7-10 year period, researchers found that K2, but not K1, significantly reduced risk of cardiovascular disease by 57%, death from all causes by 26%, and severe aortic calcification by 52%. K1 provided no significant cardiovascular protection.

Adrafinil: Alertness Without Stimulation

Non-narcoleptic users generally find that adrafinil gives them increased energy and reduces fatigue, while improving cognitive function, mental focus, concentration, and memory. It has been reported that quiet people who take adrafinil become more talkative, reserved people become more open, and passive people become more active.

Of course, many stimulant drugs, ranging from caffeine to methamphetamine, are known to produce similar alerting/energizing effects. Adrafinil has been described by some users as a “kinder, gentler” stimulant, because it provides these benefits but usually with much less of the anxiety, agitation, insomnia, associated with conventional stimulants.

Oxytocin Improves Sex, Sociability and Mood

Frisky Couple

Have you heard about oxytocin? It turns out that many people with anxiety, depression, poor social bonding or sexual difficulties are low in oxytocin and you can use low doses of oxytocin as a natural supplement (like you would melatonin or DHEA). It is safe and natural (good for you, actually) and now available without a prescription.

According to Dr. Thierry Hertoghe, a leading anti-aging physician practicing in Brussels who has experimented with supplemental oxytocin:

“After oxytocin I was enjoying chatting with people. So it seemed like oxytocin made me more sociable and warm-hearted. It made me much more attached [to his wife] in a romantic way; the attachment was a deep warm-hearted feeling. In my experience, in most of my patients and myself using it, it works to increase all relationships that you have.”
